El Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Montevideo —MACMO— es un espacio para ensayar formas de pensar el arte contemporáneo.  Es una práctica artística que investiga y pone en marcha formas alternativas de institucionalidad. Utiliza estructuras, dinámicas, alianzas y terminologías institucionales y en simultáneo procede bajo la lógica de un proyecto autónomo, lo que permite su cambio de forma constante.

El MACMO no cuenta con un espacio o edificio fijo, sino que se compone simbólicamente de los diferentes sitios en los que desarrolla sus actividades tanto en la ciudad de Montevideo que es donde se origina, como en cualquier otro lugar del país o la región. El devenir del museo por tanto es permeable a diferentes territorios y contextos.

El MACMO sitúa su interés en la dimensión práctica, política y poética que el arte contemporáneo tiene para ofrecer como herramienta de desplazamiento en los modos de ver y pensar el tiempo presente.

El desarrollo del MACMO se construye a través de prácticas investigativas que se conciben como un conjunto heterogéneo que involucran lo académico, lo histórico, lo curatorial, lo educativo, lo creativo y que permiten articular las diferentes áreas del museo.

El MACMO cuenta con un archivo que está en construcción permanente, su ordenamiento es momentáneo, y su objetivo es desintegrar lecturas para ser fuente de nueva producción de conocimiento.

El MACMO es un proyecto creado por Agustina Rodríguez y Eugenia González y participan colaboradores en sus diferentes instancias.

The Contemporary Art Museum of Montevideo -MACMO- is a space to explore ways of thinking about contemporary art. It is an artistic practice that investigates and triggers alternative forms of institutionality. It uses structures, procedures, alliances and institutional terminologies and simultaneously proceeds under the logic of an autonomous project, which allows its constant change.

The MACMO space is symbolically composed by the different sites that it uses and changes over time. These locations are chosen in direct relation to their activities.

The interest of the museum is to use the tools offered by artistic practices that develop poetic, political or conceptual dialogues to allow other forms of seeing the world to emerge.

The development of the MACMO is built through investigative practices that are conceived as a heterogeneous group involving the academic, the historical, the curatorial, the educational, the creative, and that allow the articulation of the different areas of the museum.

The MACMO has an archive that is under permanent construction, its order is momentary, and its goal is to disintegrate readings to be a source of new knowledge production.
